Pre-school day

DAILY ROUTINE

Morning session

8:30 am - Pre-school opens. Children arrive and self register, by placing their name label on the welcome board. They then self select the activities they want to participate in, indoors. 

9:00 am - More children arrive and self register.  We open the gate again at 9.00 am, for children whose parents want to drop off a bit later, maybe because they have siblings going to school. 

9:15 am - Once the register has been taken, the back door is opened and the children can free flow between indoors and outdoors.  Children again self-select activities that interest them.  Staff plan ‘in the moment’, to extend learning. Adult-led activities are also offered during the session. 

10:00 - 10:45 am - We have a free flow snack time each session, where children can come to the table when they are ready to have a snack and a drink. Children are offered fruit, vegetables, milk and water.  An adult is always there to encourage conversation and promote independence and social skills during snack time. 

11:15 am - At the end of each session the children get into small groups according to their age, focus and ability to join in group discussions.  The younger children enjoy interactive stories and songs, whilst the older group enjoy stories, songs, topic discussions and name recognition. These sessions support listening, rhyming and group participation. 

11:30 am - Home time and handover for children not staying for Lunch Club. *We ask that you please avoid using mobile phones at pick-up so staff can safely hand over your child and share any relevant information. 

Lunch Club - 11.30am - 12.30pm - Children staying for lunch are asked to bring a healthy packed lunch in a labelled, insulated bag with an ice pack. We also encourage reusable containers and teach environmental responsibility from an early age. The children sit in small groups, with an adult at each table. The adult supports children with their lunch needs, encourages conversation and promotes independence and social skills, including eating savoury first and staying seated. Once they have finished their lunch children are able to join in table top activities and games until their friends have finished.*

Afternoon session 12:30pm - 3:30pm - Our afternoon sessions follow a very similar routine (12:30pm - 3:30pm). Children have free access to indoor and outdoor learning throughout the day.
